UNMASKING. 

In the center of this piece when I began was a mask. I painted it there and then I painted over it, layer by layer, color by color, until it dissolved into something truer than what it was trying to protect. That unraveling happened on the canvas and in turn in my life.

This piece carries the visual language of my sit with the Wixárika people in ceremony with peyote, an experience that gently brought forth layers of my being that were waiting to be seen, it encourage my back onto my devotional path that I was in contemplation of diverting from. 

I have always been a highly sensitive perceiver and these experiences translate directly into my art, influenced and touched by my experiences. 

May layer after layer of pretense and conditioning be revealed to you as you sit with this piece. May it hang in your space as a colorful, living reminder that authenticity is currency, that the mask was never the center of you and that what lives underneath is worth unraveling for.
